eShakti. The name may be challenge to say, but the concept isn’t: a website that offers customizable clothing for women size 0 through 36, and allows customers to be the purchaser and the designer.
The name for the business was created by combining the word shakti, which means power in Sanskrit, and the Internet. Internet + shakti = eShakti. The online store allows customers to choose an item and order it via standard sizing, or for an extra $7.50, enter custom measurements for a perfect fit. In addition to custom sizing, customers also have the chance to be their own designer on select items and customize their order by adjusting the sleeve length, adding pockets, or even changing the neckline.
I had a chance to experience eShakti myself, and chose to get the Adelaide dress tailored to fit me. I navigated through their simple 3-step design and fit page, and entered my custom measurements (you’ll need a measuring tape and someone else to to help you get these).
eShakti uses custom measurements for body parts that many women find a challenge to fit such as bust, hips, waist, arms, and shoulders. To customize my dress, I shortened the length so it hits just above the knee, instead of the standard knee-length.
It took about two weeks for my dress to arrive (note that Canadian shoppers will be charged duty), and when it did, I couldn’t wait to put it on. I said the standard online shopping prayer in my head “please let it fit, please let it fit,” even though I knew I had entered my custom measurements.
As it turns out, it fits like it was made for me (which it was). The material is a crisp cotton and the stitching is precise; I couldn’t be happier with my new little black dress…just don’t tell my tailor.
