The French culture has a certain “Je ne sais quoi” about it, especially when it comes to fashion.

No one knows this better than professional corsetiere, Lyne Glanzmann.  A highly trained specialty tailor, she is an expert at fitting corsets, girdles, and brassieres, and travels as a consultant to help women find their best fitting undergarments. During a recent visit to Dianes Lingerie in Vancouver, Lyne shared some tips on how to find the best fitting bra for you.

1.  Start by identifying what you need.  Ask yourself if you’re looking for something for everyday wear or a special event.  Consider how you feel about the different types of bra details and features like material, colour, lace,  bows, straps, and wire.

2.  Focus on what kind of a silhouette or shape you’re looking for.  Just like any other item of clothing, not all bra styles fit everyone.  Some styles will suit you more than others; try moulded, demi, full, or push up bras to find the one that feels best to you.  If a cut doesn’t flatter or fit you, accept that it’s not for you and move on to the next style.

3.  Shop at a store that will measure and fit you.  Most women are wearing the wrong size bra; shopping at a store that fits each bra for you will ensure that you’ll leave the store with the right size.  Even if you think you know your size, bra styles fit differently, so make sure that you’re fitted every time.

Once you’ve found the bra of your dreams, take care of it.  Lynn suggests hand washing it or using a garment bag in the washing machine on the gentle cycle.
