While I love mixing colours, prints, and patterns, there’s something understated and elegant about keeping things simple; the perfect sartorial example of the beauty in simplicity is the LBD, or little black dress. No matter what style, size, shape, or colour, a little black dress truly goes with everything, and speaks volumes without screaming for attention.
In preparation for an outing to celebrate a dear friend’s birthday, I pulled out one of my closet favourites: my ruched Joe Fresh LBD. Going with the theme of less is more, I stuck to a palette of minimal colour, except for my new statement necklace from J.Crew (honestly, does anyone do statement jewels and gems better than the Crew)? I also took the opportunity to wear my Alexander Wang Diego Bag (which I saved up for months for), so I’m always looking for an excuse to wear it. Despite my love of fashion, I’m actually very budget-conscious when it comes to wants vs. needs, and this was definitely a big, stylish want.
I’ve also been trying to cultivate simplicity in other areas of my life…like my thoughts. I’ve always been a believer in the power of positive thinking, but lately I’ve been teaching myself and trying to implement positive thought practices into my life. I will be the first one to admit that I do a lot of “what if?” thinking and I have honed and perfected the ability to catastrophize over whatever is bothering me. After many years of thinking this way, I’ve decided that it’s time to try (and perfect) something new. With the help of new skills, knowledge, and practices, I’m hoping to get rid of these negative habits and make room for bigger and better ones. Onwards and upwards!
