You may have noticed that Curated Taste has been a bit light on posts this past week, and that’s because I took some time out for me.
I made the trip to see my family, and basically went offline for the entire week. I spent my time outdoors, showing my better half around town, having long conversations over a glass of wine, snuggling with our family dogs, and catching up with relatives. Even though I live across the country from my family, we are all very close and pick up exactly where we left off the last time we said goodbye. As I write this, I’m on the plane heading back to my beloved Vancouver, and it’s bittersweet.
Even though I tried not to, I shed a few tears at the airport when I said my goodbyes. On one hand, I wish I didn’t have to take a plane every time I want to see my family; on the other hand, it’s times like these that allow me to be deeply grateful for the life I have created for myself. I’m looking forward to getting back to “normal life” (whatever that is): working towards my goals, getting back into my fitness routine, seeing my friends, and soaking up some delicious Vancouver summer sunshine.
On a lighter note, I made a conscious effort to pack lightly this trip. I focused on bringing key pieces that I can dress up or down and wear in different ways (dressy sandals, chunky statement necklaces, drawstring pants, tube dresses, and silk tops). One item that I wore repeatedly is my striped tube dress; I wore it as a dress to a family shindig, as a skirt (by throwing a sweatshirt overtop) when I went out to dinner, and for a casual look, threw a tee on top for an afternoon of sightseeing. I’m happy to report that my newly developed packing skills worked, and I didn’t have to hold my breath when the airline weighed my bag.
