It’s funny how a style, item, or even colour of clothing can bring back fond (or perhaps embarrassing) sartorial memories. Whether you want to remember or forget these moments, they stick with you forever and can make you laugh, reminisce, cringe, or smile.
Overalls are definitely a flashback item for me; my first pair of overalls were hand-me-downs from my super-cool older cousin whom I worshipped. I had won the fashion lottery, and I couldn’t believe my luck; I wore them repeatedly, accessorizing with my oh-so-‘90s smiley face backpack, hologram peace sign necklace, Bonne Bell Chapstick, and/or my favourite scrunchie.
Fast-forward some time (let’s not get too specific here), and overalls have made their way back into my heart and closet. I’ve been wanting to add a pair of overalls to my wardrobe for a while now, and after wearing them just one time, I remember why I love them so much: they are so darn comfortable. The contemporary overall is much more fitted and flattering than its ‘90s counterpart, but just as relaxed and cozy. I think I’ll swap out my tie-dye t-shirt for a statement tee and my high-tops for a pair of heels, but overall, the principle remains the same. It’s nice to know that some things never change.
