Today I’ll be doing a post on another very very belated product which I said I’d review (I posted about this before in my March Favorites) but haven’t till now.. MY BELOVED BEAUTY BLENDER! *does cheerleader jiggy at the side*

Oh I am so so in love with my Beauty Blender, nothing else could faze me. Not even comments (if any) about how dupes are cheaper and almost as good could interest me. My Beauty Blender is my all-time Cannot-Live-Without and you’re going to find out why!

Background Information

Now you can look like a movie star without the pricey services of a major make up artist. Introducing Beautyblender, the ultimate make up sponge applicator. Invented by top Hollywood make up artist Rea Ann Silva, Beautyblender has been created to leave you with a professional finish and a flawless complexion. Silva knows that the key to a perfect face is simple: a perfect blend. So forget your fingers or sharp-edged triangular sponges, these application methods waste make up and can leave visible streaks.   Beautyblender’s patent-pending elliptical shape makes application foolproof by allowing you to access hard-to-reach areas with stunning ease. Its suede texture is sensual to the touch and its unique curves fit the contours of your face, leaving your make up dazzling and undetectable. Beautyblender is latex free, non-allergenic and odor free (which means it’s perfectly fine for sensitive skin).

Well it comes in this box, if you do buy it individually. I know that some are sold in twos and I’m not too sure how they look like, but I’ll be focusing on this one. First of all, be careful when you try to take the Beauty Blender out of the packaging because there are plastic “teeth” holding it in place.

Instead of pulling the Beauty Blender out straight (which can damage the sponge), push it downwards first and lift up the base of the box to take the Beauty Blender out. I know this seems like a lot of hassle but it is safer and better. Afterall, this is an expensive product and you would probably want to treat it as such.

I did not throw my packaging away because I find it rather cute, and makes pretty good storage for my sponge. I just rest/place my Beauty Blender on top of the base (refer to “packaging of beauty blender” photo) and leave it there when I’m done. This saves me the trouble of looking for a container as well.

Color and Texture

Mine is neon/bright pink (apparently there’s a black one now too), which is perfect because pink is my favorite color! Do note that the color does tend to fade with every wash, as you can see mine is kind of a dull-pink now. I suppose that’s only natural, I have no complaints about that.

The size is very small and cute, I love it. Haha, I find it difficult to depict the Beauty Blender professionally when it looks so adorable! Okay.. It is egg-shaped, with a round wide base and a pointed tip, and is a little smaller than my palm. When soaked in water though, it expands to about twice it’s size! As you can see it becomes pretty large, about up to 2 times its original size!

Now, in case you’re wondering why we need to add water – it’s because the Beauty Blender is meant to be used when it’s damp. Well, there’s nothing really stopping you from using it dry but the finish will definitely be very different and not even near as flawless.

The sponge feels incredibly soft and (is this the right word..?) squishy once it’s been soaked. I cannot even come close to describing how amazing it feels. It never tugs on skin, it isn’t one bit rough, and it just feels like you’re rubbing a marshmallow against your face – without the stickiness of course. Seriously, do not even waste time getting dupes; I’ve tried many sponges before and nothing even comes close to this.

How to Use / Maintenance

1) Run the dry Beauty Blender under the tap to get it wet.
2) Squeeze it a few times under running water to get it evenly soaked on all sides.
3) When done, squeeze it dry but do not wring/twist it!
4) Finally, depending on how dry you want your sponge to be, wrap it in a tissue and squeeze the excess water out again.

If you take care of your Beauty Blender properly, it should last you up to 6 months. You will notice that it’s time to retire your sponge when it starts to take much longer to shrink back to it’s original size.

Application Methods

For Foundation:

I suggest using the rounded bottom for application on the face. This allows for easier spreading over a wider area. What you have to do is to dot the foundation all over your skin, and then very simply bounce/pat the Beauty Blender against your face in quick circular motions – this allows the sponge to distribute an even layer of product over your skin while at the same time “thinning” the foundation down so that the look is natural and smooth. You can even use the sponge to go over areas you applied with your fingers, which later appear tacky/cakey, to sooth the layer out.

For your reference, I have applied a quick-drying foundation on my face, and used my beauty blender for the left side and my fingers for the right. As you can see, the left side is applied flawlessly and the foundation looks like a second skin, whilst the right looks patchy and streaky.

P/S: This is not done on purpose.. the foundation is honestly really difficult to use, which is why I stopped after about 2 tries.

P/P/S: You can apply this same method over your cheeks with cream blusher.

For Concealer:

For under eye or blemish concealing, I would suggest using the pointed tip for precision. What I do is apply a layer of concealer onto the area first and then lightly pat the sponge tip onto the places I’d like to cover up. The pointed tip is also an added bonus because it allows you to target hard-to-reach areas and does not thin down the product you use as much as the rounded base.

Nonetheless, blending does eventually lead to “sheering” of any liquid product, even if you use your fingers/brushes, so you can choose to add more onto areas that are darker or more visible. As you can refer to the photos above, I have applied under eye concealer using my Beauty Blender for the left eye and fingers for the right. The one on the left eye looks more uniform and better blended whereas the right eye doesn’t look as well-covered or smooth.

This is because, ultimately, when blending with your fingers, the product “sticks” onto your skin and keeps lessening with each pat. The concealer, however, does not stick to the sponge as much, and thus more of it remains on the skin.

Cleaning of Beauty Blender

I bought my Beauty Blender with the cleanser specially formulated for me and that set me back a whopping $50 (if you get the Beauty Blender alone it is about $30). Still, I have no regrets. $20 for a pretty big bottle of sponge cleaner which you can use for your brushes as well! It will last quite a while and cleanses very effectively! Just 2-3 pumps is enough to make my sponge look as good as new!

If you do not get the cleanser, any other facial soap should do just fine – I hear of people who use Cetaphil to wash their sponges. I suggest washing the Beauty Blender after EVERY USE. Do not be lazy because makeup will collect on the sponge, which creates germs that ultimately end up on your face.

Overall Thoughts

Phew! I know this is a long post but I want to be as detailed as possible without making a video (I suck at them :'( *sigh), so do bear with me. I will list an equal number of pros and cons for this product for easier understanding.

– Creates a flawless air-brushed finish
– Easy to understand and use
– Makes makeup application so much quicker
– Easy to take care of/cleanse
– Convenient to take anywhere
– Can last you a good few months

– Quite expensive at $30 a piece
– Color fades with usage and washing
– Can be unsanitary at times
– A little troublesome and high maintenance
– Doesn’t come in many colors? (lol running out of ideas)
– Difficult to find a container to bring it travelling in

Okay as you can see.. the points for cons are quite lame. LOL. I’m really unable to come up with anything legitimately bad besides the price range because I love it too damn much. It is so beautiful and easy to use that there are no faults.

Unlessssss you’re a perfectionist like me. Even though things already look good, I just want it to be better so I keep blending and blending till I’m left with nothing and start all over again hahaha, but I have learnt to stop that now. I think.

Yes, so this is a super big thumbs up for me, and the highest rating I will ever put up on this blog! Get it if you don’t already use it guys!

Anyone who wants really flawless makeup application done in half the time and half the frustration. Also, you have to be willing to splurge for this item because it is rather expensive.

Would I Repurchase

Duh. D, U, H. I cannot live without this anymore. I remember going to the Benefit Workshop a few weeks/months back and telling Ashley, “How am I supposed to blend this in without my Beauty Blender!?!?” to get an eye roll back in reply haha. But seriously, I would definitely repurchase. I would even repurchase it in bulk so I feel secure forever. You get the drift.

Stockists: BHG, Sasa at Wisma Atria and Luxola

Overall Rating: 9.8/10 (-0.2 because I’m too dependent now)

I know this post was way long, but I do hope that it was as informative as it can get! ( ♥ ) Sam
