A look at the Aerin Lauder Brush Essential Set. An Aerin makeup brush review, photos, product information, and Aerin product review.

Maybe it’s my marketing degree talking, but when it comes to makeup, I want a good product that also looks good on my shelf. One of my favourite brands that tops both of these categories is AERIN. Founded by Aerin Lauder, the granddaughter of Estée Lauder , AERIN eyeshadow, lipstick, perfume, lipgloss, body cream, and beauty tools are practically works of art.

The first time that I saw the AERIN makeup brush essentials set was at a press preview and it took all my willpower to not bolt to the display and drool directly onto the luxe collection.  My brush set at the time was from high school (I kid you not) and was literally being held together with hot glue that I had cleverly used to “repair” them. I was long overdue for a new set – I know, slightly embarrassing for a fashion and beauty writer.  Needless to say, I was smitten with the pink and gold tools that were shiny and new (and free of hot glue).

The Essentials

The AERIN Essential Brush is a travel-friendly set of brushes that covers all the makeup essentials.  The set includes a bronzer/powder brush, lip brush, blush brush, eyeshadow brush, eyeliner brush, and comes in a handy printed AERIN bag. The brushes are lightweight and are small enough to carry with you wherever you go; the longest brush is the blush brush, and it’s about five inches in length. I like a large powder or bronzer brush, so I think I’ll purchase a full-size brush to complement this compact collection.

The only synthetic brush in the set is the eyeliner brush – all the other brushes are made out of goat or pony hair.  One of my main complaints when it comes to synthetic brushes is that they often aren’t stiff enough at the base of the brush. I’m all for cruelty-free brushes, but I like them to have a bit of resistance to buff and blend makeup.  The AERIN powder, blush, and eyeshadow brushes have a nice stiffness to them while still being soft and smooth.

At $165 for the set, it’s a bit of an investment, but as I’ve realized, if you take care of your brushes (and I don’t recommend hot glue), they will take care of you.
