The Vancouver Holt Renfrew fall windows have made their debut, and are making this cool summer weather a bit more bearable. One look at the quilted trenches, rich colours, suit jackets, and warm sweaters, and suddenly I’m looking forward to fall boots and scarves.
Phase one of the I Spy windows are a throwback to film noir, complete with mood lighting and a mysterious feel. Many pieces are 40s inspired, and feature synched waists, classic trench coats, fur collars, and elegant silhouettes.
Each window features a woman of mystery who seems to be up to something. Lurking in the shadows, behind a door, or in a garbage can, is a detective that is hot on her trail. Men’s trends include polished pieces such as tailored jackets, ties, tie pins, and pocket squares. Brands like Z Zegna and Armani were big influences, both emphasizing the dapper and distinguished male. Women’s fall trends embrace femininity and the windows were heavily influenced by Gucci. Belted jackets, slimming pants, fedoras, and classic accessories are among some of the fall fashion trends to look forward to. Hunter green and fiery oranges are front row and centre this fall, among the always classic fall shades of cranberry red, topes, and tawny browns. All this gumshoe talk inspired me to do some investigative research, and a top secret informant has tipped me off that there will be more fall styles later this month, when phase two hits the streets.
