Greetings babes! Now, put your hands up if you could use a facial right about…now. I know I’ll wave my hands frantically in the air at this point if i were you. I mean come on, it’s the start of the year, surely one of your new years resolution involves pampering and learning to love yourself a whole lot more right? There’s nowhere better to start than with a monthly facial to wind down from those late nights in the office, here’s one place I highly recommend – The Skinlab Medispa.
I rarely, and I truly mean RARELY recommend facial places because I’m always incredibly skeptical about how long the effects last for. Upon a single session at Skinlab The Medispa, the results lasted for weeks. My skin, which used to have tiny bumps underneath from all the build up of all the late nights, alcohol *ahem*, all disappeared after a single session. It’s been 3 weeks now, and my skin is still as smooth as ever.Ok enough with the introduction, lets get on to the deets of this ahh-mazing place!

It also comes from the in-house tailored treatments and the well-trained therapists and consultants whose knowledge help every individual client find the treatment that will best meet her that will best meet her needs.

The Room

The room that I was ushered into was very spacious and I really liked that I had a space of my own that wasn’t shared. It just made me feel more at ease.

Enzyme Peel
Initially,  Skinlab the Medical Spa had recommended the hydro peel which would boost the hydration within my skin but unfortunately due to the several breakouts and bumps on my skin, they recommended the Enzyme peel facial that would help rid and clear my breakouts.
An Enzyme peel?! Yes, it’s is a treatment that aims to deeply cleanse the skin by gently ridding the layer of dead skin cells off the skin’s surface. This helps to bring out the healthy skin cells and to promote rejuvenation within them. Peels in general also set out to help reduce the visibility of acne scaring and spots.

Step one: Deep cleansing
Ok, this step is a no brainer ladies. Cleansing, I popped by  Skinlab the Medical Spa after running a couple of morning errands so I have a semi-full face of makeup on. There’s no way you can ever start a facial without having removed the layer of dirt of your face.

Step two: Steaming + Enzyme Peel
The Enzyme mask is then applied to the now, clean canvas, and If you’ve watched several DIY facials, you’ll notice that people enjoy using a facial steamer or have their face hovered over a bot of boiling water. Reason being that the steam helps open up the pores, allowing whatever product (usually a mask or a scrub) to properly deep clean your skin by ridding the dirt that’s trapped deep within your pores.

Despite having relatively sensitive skin, this didn’t make my skin itch or feel warm at all. It was comfortable and incredibly relaxing to have the steam just help open up my pores. I’m sorry that the photo above wasn’t taken in the same angle but! can you guys already see how much brighter my skin looks??

Step Four: ExtractionNow Sam and I always opt out of extractions due to countless number of bad experience when we cave to have our zits popped. (we were at the point where we shake our head profusely when our beauticians mention the E word. *extraction.) However, my facial lady, Kelly, truly felt that an extraction would benefit my skin due to the amount of build up, and she promised that my skin wouldn’t flare up after due to the rosewater treatment that they had to follow after. I put my skin in her hands and I’m so glad I went for the extraction.
Usually, my skin would start to turn red, spots will become more inflamed and basically, I’ll look like i just had one too many mosquito bites. This time around, the sizes of the bumps reduced and they didn’t feel sore at all. Major props to that, this is one of the key reasons why I loved my facial so much.

Step five: Soothing the Skin
Kelly mentioned how important it was that the skin had to be soothe after an extraction— not treating it properly would mean that there’s room for bacteria to creep in whilst the wound is exposed. So she loaded up some thin cotton pads with rosewater to help sooth the spots. T’was definitely a cooling and relaxing sensation. I personally think this helped prevent my spots from feeling like they were violated through the process.

Step six: Rose MaskThe soothing doesn’t stop there. Kelly then proceeded to apply a rose mask to my entire face to cool and soothe everything, ensuring that my skin doesn’t flare up. Rosewater within masks are also filled with anti-oxidants and vitamins that help nourish to reinstate that natural healthy glow. This was left on for about 15 minutes as a dozed off and was then removed to reveal smooth and a much brighter complexion.

Before and After
Right after the facial, the difference was right in front of me. My skin was a lot brighter, smoother and not irritated at all. I couldn’t be more happier with the results! Here’s the quick before and after of the spots on the side of my face just to show you how the facial has helped in the long run. See the tiny bumps? they’ve all disappeared within the next morning.
If you’re the low maintenance sort and don’t have the time to commit to 2 facials a month, perhaps squeezing in just one at the Skinlab the Medical Spa is worth your time. I know I’d make the trip down just because I am certain the effects are long lasting.
