Vancouver Honey Spots – My Sweet Spots in Vancouver, British Columbia

A photo diary of some of my favourite spots in Vancouver, BC.

No matter where you live, everyone has a few favourite spots that make you feel your best. These places create an atmosphere where we feel totally authentic; where joy bubbles up inside of us; and where we truly embrace the moment.

Maybe it’s at a quiet park under the shade of a tree, at your weekly spin class while you sweat away your stress, in your family’s backyard, or at your favourite local coffee shop.  Everyone needs a happy place, and in a city like Vancouver, there are plenty of spots to choose from.

1.  Olympic Village Dog Park

I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m the girl that hangs out at dog parks without a dog.  My hectic lifestyle doesn’t allow for me to have a dog of my own, so I often visit dog parks around the city to hang out with my furry friends. Being around animals brings out the best in me and leaves me with an authentic perma-smile.

2. Interviewing, Researching, and Writing at the Shangri-La

No one does luxury better than the Shangri La Hotel.  Many of my interviews and meetings take place here among signature cocktails, live classical piano, and dangerously addictive popcorn. The atmosphere is plush and luxurious, but what I love most is the feeling that I get when I’m being creative and doing what I love.  I recently met with MAC cosmetics to preview their FW13 collection and as always, it didn’t even feel like work.

3.  Demonstration Forest

I’m a city girl at heart, but even a city girl needs to unplug occasionally.  One of the things that I appreciate most about Vancouver is that if you’re in the downtown core, the only thing that stands between you and biking through the rainforest is a 20 minute car ride.

4.  Outdoor Yoga at Jack Poole Plaza

I realize that I’m filling a Vancouver stereotype here, but I finally experienced the joy of outdoor yoga. I took advantage of lululemon’s free outdoor summer yoga surrounded by the ocean, an endless blue sky, and majestic mountains. There’s nothing like doing a sun salutation actually in the sun.

5. My Home Office

It’s full of beauty products, press releases, promotional materials, reference guides, and sticky notes that have long lost their adhesion, but it’s my space.  Cramped yet comfortable, it’s where I feel my most authentic self as I pitch articles, write features, answer emails, conduct interviews, and chase my dreams.
